Learn ways to use two effective evidence based practices - Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy(DBT) - in a manner that builds on the strengths of both approaches, and provides effective care for challenging behavioral health and substance use issues. This two-day workshop addresses common EBP implementation challenges and illustrates how both MI and DBT have processes and interventions that complement and support each other to enhance their effectiveness. See below for learning objectives.

Registration Fee: $350 (includes continuing education). Morning coffee and afternoon snack provided. Lunch is on your own.

Who should participate: Behavioral health providers (clinicians and supervisors) who have received some basic instruction in DBT and MI.

LearningObjectives:
  • Participants will be able to compare one DBT acceptance technique and one MI Spirit concept to improve treatment engagement among public behavioral health clients.
  • Participants will be able to apply two MI spirit of skills interventions in a DBT skills group to promote engagement and change among behavioral health clients.
  • Participants will be able to classify at least three Motivational Interviewing and three Dialectical Behavior Therapy interventions to improve MI and DBT coding skills among public behavioral health clinicians.
  • Participants will be able to design one DBT/MI implementation plan with at least one measurable objective to improve consistent application of MI and DBT skills among clinicians in the behavioral health workforce.
  • Participants will be able to devise one method of evaluating MI/DBT implementation efforts in their organization to promote the use of MI/DBT skills among public behavioral health clinicians.
