Crisis Intervention Training: Evidenced-Based Strategies for Assessing Lethality, Collaborative Engagement, & Linkage to Community Resources

The Crisis Intervention Training workshop will address how to use evidence-based strategies for assessing lethality and how to initiate collaborative conversations to engage at-risk individuals in safety planning and linkage to care. Building community resources and creating support networks for staff and community members will also be addressed. In addition to learning the theory and skills for how to apply evidence-based crisis-assessment and engagement strategies in high-risk situations, participants will also practice using the skills to address various crisis issues currently encountered in behavioral health settings including:
1. Mental health and addiction crisis on the streets,
2. Crisis among adolescents struggling with self-harm behaviors, depression and anxiety;
3. Individual distress following environmental disasters, such as forest fires, flooding, and landslides.
Target Audience: Social Workers, Clinicians, Case Managers, Counselors, and Team Leaders.

Learning Objectives:
- Construct six different types
of complex reflective listening responses to actively listen to their
clients in behavioral health and education settings.
- Prepare at least four complex
affirmations that they can use to support strength among their clients
in behavioral health and education settings.
- Identify at least four examples
of "spirit" of MI in conversations so they can take an effective
therapeutic stance with their clients in behavioral health and education
settings.
- Produce one collaboratively
created menu of options to offer clients seeking advice and information in
behavioral health and education settings.
- Assess their own ability via
Likert scale to provide empathic, collaborative, and change-focused MI interventions
to maintain fidelity when delivering MI to clients in behavioral health
and education settings.
- Plan at least 2 ways they can
bring motivational interviewing into their practice with clients in
behavioral health and education settings.
This experiential workshop will include vignettes and breakout rooms for enhanced learning experience.
Approval for 5.5 CEs.
Psychologists : Psychologists - APA: California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
Course meets the qualifications for 5.5 hours of continuing
education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the
California Board of Behavioral Sciences; and CIBHS is an approved provider for
the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) to sponsor
continuing education for Behavioral health professionals including social workers,
clinicians, case managers, counselors, and team leaders. CIBHS
maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.
All activities in this training are offered for continuing education credit excluding any breaks. CE Certificates of Completion will be emailed within two weeks of processing your completed online evaluation.
