Need to meet AB 1436 mandatory requirements for suicide risk assessment and intervention?  Join us and empower yourself with life-saving skills at our Suicide Assessment, Prevention & Intervention workshop!

1. Do you work with clients who struggle with suicidal ideation?

2. Are you interested in learning about effective strategies to prevent suicide?

3. Do you want to learn how to write effective safety plans that support your clients during times of distress?

Clinicians are increasingly involved in helping to support clients who are experiencing significant distress, including thoughts of suicide. This workshop is designed to help build and refresh the most important suicide intervention skills and is designed for providers at all levels of care. In this six-hour training, workshop participants will learn the essential components of suicide intervention best practice: recognizing and responding to warning signs; asking directly about suicide; engaging in a conversation about suicidal feelings and thoughts; and creating a collaborative safety plan. Participants will be able to practice intervention skills throughout the training and will also participate in identifying and creating supportive resource materials and self-care plans.

Objectives:

1. Distinguish two or more differences between suicide warning signs and risk factors when treating individuals in the behavioral health care setting.

2. Identify and explain two or more common suicide myths in order to educate community members and individuals receiving behavioral health services.

3. Apply at least two ways to ask directly about suicidal intentions among individuals receiving behavioral health services.

4. Apply two or more reflective listening skills to explore ambivalence regarding completing suicide among individuals receiving mental health services.

5.  Assess two or more safety planning needs when working with behavioral health clients indicating suicidal ideation.

6. Identify at least two selfcare strategies to maintain clinical effectiveness when working with clients at risk for suicide in the behavioral health care setting.
