Crisis Intervention Training: Evidenced-Based Strategies for Assessing Lethality, Collaborative Engagement, & Linkage to Community Resources

Virtual Training 

The Crisis Intervention Training workshop will address how to use evidence-based strategies for assessing lethality and how to initiate collaborative conversations to engage at-risk individuals in safety planning and linkage to care. Building community resources and creating support networks for staff and community members will also be addressed. In addition to learning the theory and skills for how to apply evidence-based crisis-assessment and engagement strategies in high-risk situations, participants will also practice using the skills to address various crisis issues currently encountered in behavioral health settings including:  


1. Mental health and addiction crisis on the streets, 

2. Crisis among adolescents struggling with self-harm behaviorsdepression and anxiety;

3. Individual distress following environmental disasters, such as forest fires, flooding, and landslides.


Target Audience: Social Workers, Clinicians, Case Managers, Counselors, and Team Leaders.

Do you feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of crises experienced in your community and those seeking services from you? 

Do you wish for effective ways to assess for crises, engage your clients, and put a plan of action in place? 

Please join us to learn more about using strategies that are effective in addressing crises in our communities. 


Objectives: 

1.  Apply at least one motivational interviewing micro skill to increase treatment engagement among persons in crisis.

2. Recognize 10 or more critical warning signs when assessing for suicide risk among persons in crisis.

3. Articulate 10 or more critical assessment questions when assessing for lethality toward self and others among individuals in crisis.       

4. Discuss four or more mental health risk factors reported in current research to be unique among adolescents and young adults who have grown up in the age of social media and during the pandemic.

 5. Identify three strategies that are based in evidence-based practices for increasing treatment engagement among individuals living and using substances on the streets.

6.  Construct a six-point safety plan to mitigate self-harm and help stabilize individuals in crisis. 

7.  Describe the five skill areas reported in current research to be critical for working effectively with survivors of wildfires and other natural disasters.


This experiential workshop will include vignettes and breakout rooms for enhanced learning experience. 

Approval for 5.5 CEs.  


Psychologists :  Psychologists - APA: California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions maintains responsibility for this program and its content.


RN:  CIBHS is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 17140 for 5.5 contact hours.


LMFT, LPCC, LEP and/or LCSW: CIBHS is an approved provider for the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) to sponsor continuing education. CIBHS maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content . Course meets the qualifications for 5.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.(Provider Number 70799)

All activities in this training are offered for continuing education credit excluding any breaks. CE Certificates of Completion will be emailed within two weeks of processing your completed online evaluation.
