Co-regulation in therapy fosters greater emotional balance and healing from the wounds of trauma.Co-regulation requires the therapist to self-regulate their own emotional experiences. The therapist who is able to self-regulate is better attuned to their client's experiences and can offer a more nurturing connection that supports healing. The COVID pandemic has resulted in numerous pressures being placed on behavioral health care professionals, including higher caseloads, that can diminish a therapist's capacity to accomplish co-regulation with their clients in therapy and thwart treatment. This webinar focuses on self-regulation techniques that therapists can use to achieve better co-regulation when treating clients who have experienced trauma. The webinar also covers approaches for teaching self-regulation techniques to clients to use in their own lives to support their healing journey. This 90-minute training offers space for participants to practice self-regulation tools voluntarily and mindfully as a means to properly apply these techniques in their clinical practice. Join us to learn about self-regulation techniques for improving co-regulation in therapy and teaching clients to use these techniques in their daily lives to promote better self-care.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the six principles of a trauma-informed approach for treating behavioral health clients who have experienced trauma.
  • Discuss the process by which co-regulation in therapy helps to repair emotional dysregulation experienced by trauma survivors and support clients with achieving better regulation and relational connections.
  • Demonstrate at least one mindfulness skill for promoting better self-care and treatment outcomes among behavioral health clients who have experienced trauma
